Research Project
Your research project in CMGT210 supplements the structured learning that takes place in the
readings and class sessions. This project is your opportunity to expand your knowledge and skill as
a Project Manager and explore a question of interest within the field of construction management.
The research project is worth 15% of your final grade. The assignment is broken down into several
components. The general requirements for each element, as well as due dates and point values, are
noted below.
Research Topic Selection –
Review the provided list of research questions. Students will select
their topic. Only one student per topic will be allowed. The order of selection will be by lottery, so
students are encouraged to come to class prepared with backup preferences in the event another
student selects their first choice.
Research Report, Part 1
Locate outside articles or reports (minimum of two) related to the research question that you
selected. YOU CANNOT USE THE TEXTBOOK. Using your external research, formulate an answer to
the question. Your response to the question should include your perspective/opinion, but supported
with research. You are strongly encouraged to use the critical thinking framework discussed in
week 1 of class when drafting your report. The submitted report should be 2 to 3 pages, typed,
double-spaced. Copies of your research should be attached to your report, and your report must
include proper in-text citations and bibliography following APA format.
Research Report, Part 2
You will be asked a follow-up question related to your topic. Locate outside articles or reports (minimum of
two) related to the follow-up question that you receive. YOU CANNOT USE THE TEXTBOOK. Using
your external research, formulate an answer to the question. Your response to the question should
include your perspective/opinion, but supported with research. Include an explanation of how the
second part of your research reinforced or altered your perspective from Part 1. Again, you are
strongly encouraged to use the critical thinking framework discussed in week 1 of class when
drafting your report. The submitted report should be 3 to 4 pages, typed, double-spaced. Copies of
your research should be attached to your report, and your report must include proper in-text
citations and bibliography following APA format.
Research Report,
Each student will stand up and summarize the research questions that they
answered less in a 5- to 10-minute presentation, without reading your reports. I will determine the
order of presentations, so you must be prepared to present at any time during the class session.
