Why is the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum smooth?
[ad_1]
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is termed smooth to distinguish it from rough endoplasmic reticulum where ribosomes are scattered on the surface of the membrane.
Ribosomes present on RER produce and deliver the protein molecules directly in the lumen of RER. On the other hand SER is responsible for modifying packaging and trafficking of molecules.
