Your in-text citations should be proper while writing an Essay in MLA style
The main writing styles used in writing essays are MLA, APA or Harvard formats.Therefore mandatory that students familiarize themselves with an essay format to prepare a paper as per the instructions of their tutors. Usually, an academic essay that follows the guidelines of any of three formats given above must have an A-4 size or an American letter size paper. The writing should be done in double line spacing, while the first line of the new paragraph should be indented to about half an inch. A margin of around one inch is required to be left on all sides of the page for writing the MLA essay.
The title page should have the name of the student, followed by the name of the project, written in bold letters, centrally located. In addition, the page number with project title should be depicted on the right hand corner of each page, usually in font size of 10. The main essay text and other parts of essay like the introduction and conclusion should be written in the font size of 12, while using the Times New Roman font style.

Quoting others
As students are encouraged to use the external sources as evidence in support of their essay topic and its arguments, it is essential that they properly refer these sources, within the essay text and at the end of the essay in bibliography pages. In case students are directly quoting any author or publisher in their MLA essay, they should write such text in parenthesis or within double quotes. This should follow with the name of the author and date of the publication to inform the readers on the external source used.

In-text citation and works-cited page
This is the most important part of the writing format as prescribed by the regulators. Accordingly, the MLA format requires that all external sources used in the main essay should be properly cited in the essay text. This means that the surname of the author should be given in the brackets, followed by the date of publication used in the essay by the students. The full details of this citation should be given in the works-cited page, which will have the name of the publication, within the double quotes, followed by the address of the source where the reader can access this publication. In case of any web address, care should be taken to give the complete site address of the link so that it becomes a workable link and gives the readers required information on the subject. This is essential, as it will save students from serious plagiarism accusation.
