The Concept of Time
Evolution or more accurately; the different theories and models
surrounding how animals and plants adapt and change over time.
Species is a term and construct that we came up with to better explain,
categorise, and understand the multitude of animals and plants that
God created.
Genesis says “kinds” – this does not necessarily correlate to the
scientific term “species”.

Unhelpful Categories
Evolution vs Creation
Naturalism vs Creationism
Science vs Christianity
Old world vs New world
Creation Science
These categories are largely social constructs designed to help
people class other people into groups so they themselves can
better understand the person and where they fit.
They have nothing to do with science.
“Naturalism is not science, it is a worldview or philosophy
within which scientific study can operate.”
“Scientific study can also operate within a Christian
Worldview.”
“The scientific method is not a philosophy,
it is a process whereby data is systematically collected and
analysed.”
“The Bible is not a scientific text”
and
“Science is not a spiritual investigation tool”
Workshop
Session 3
Theories &
Conflicting
Philosophies
In your grade group
Given your understanding of science theory, are there any pre-existing
philosophies integrated into your lessons that are perhaps unhelpful?
Work with your group to tease these out and reconstruct your lessons to
ensure science is about science and how we use science to learn about
God’s world, rather than having a biblical concept trump a science theory
which is simply a circular argument. Remember to compare apples to
apples, and oranges to oranges. The Bible is not a scientific text.
Or
Are their any science lessons that make no reference to God, His character
or the things He values? If we are to believe Romans (1:19-20) is correct
there must be something in every portion of science that reveals His Glory.
