The students will make a critical analysis of a film (Freedom Writers), this has the objective to analyze critically the manifestations of oppression and the dimensions of diversity in groups, and diverse communities, as well as the implications for the practice of Social Work. It is an Accreditation Appraisal Instrument of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Each student should observe the aforementioned film and carry out an analysis of it, applying the concepts studied in class and using the following working guide. In its analysis it should include the concepts and postulates of system theory and ecological perspective, as well as make correct use of the concepts of diversity and oppression. You must present appropriate spelling and syntax, comply with the working guide, the presentation of the written work must contain title, teacher name, course, student name, identification number and include consulted bibliography.

I. Introduction that includes
a. Short summary of the film (where it presents the data relevant to the problems presented).
II. Group Analysis
a. How did the teacher manage to organize the group?
b. Explains the teacher’s purpose to create the group called “The Writers of Freedom”.
c. Identify the subgroups that existed within the hall of teacher Erin Gruwell.
d. Describes the socio-cultural characteristics that identify the different subgroups within the room (diversity).
e. Describe the socio-structural conditions of the community to which the students of teacher Erin Gruwell belonged.
f. Explain and provide examples of the discrimination and oppression experienced by members of subgroups as a result of socio-structural conditions in the community (How can cultural structures and values oppress or discriminate against human beings?)
g. Eco-systemic analysis of the group in relation to its members (Apply postulates and concepts)
i. How were the members of the group visualized by society? Were there manifestations of oppression? Explains.
ii. How did the characteristics of the group members impact the development of the group?
iii. How did the leader impact the members of the group? Explain if there was a change in behavior and provide examples.
iv. How did membership in the group impact its members and the environment around them? Provide examples.
