During this class and the previous, I had the unique opportunity to be involved in this project both virtually and physically.  Within my own professional organization, we implemented a fast-track and till this day I am monitoring its success and holding staff accountable to sustain change.  The awesome thing about this experience was that virtually I experience this on a high level as the project manager.  I did perform a Gantt Chart, though smaller than that of the one I did in class, and posted it in my office where it was seen by many.  I also found that I was able to speak more intellectually about project management and sustaining change, and this surely contributes to my value with this organization. 

Interestingly enough, my director asked if I would consider fish-boning to determine how improvements could be made on the back end of ED throughput since the front-end numbers have improved.  I told her that I would love to do this with her, but I also explained that our problems now will not be the same problems in the immediate future.  In other words, our efforts may be wasted with so much changing during this pandemic.  As a result of C19, large amounts of our PCU and ICU beds have been converted into C19 space.  All admitted patients are tested and resulted prior to admission or any procedure. Our C19 tent remains open.  And, we are holding many patients that are not C19 positive.   This has flipped, as we were holding C19 positive patients as of only 3 weeks ago.  The reason for the flip is a decline in C19 cases, and I anticipate many of our C19 beds to be converted back to PCU or ICU beds soon.  That conversation ended quickly.  I do not know if she felt I was running from extra work or realized that there may not be a reason to intervene during significant change.  Currently, it is impossible to gather consistent baseline data with C19 on the decline.  I would like to believe that much of this critical thinking is a result of the gained knowledge through this experience.

I am proud of myself for this accomplishment and it has improved me both professionally and personally.  Professionally, I have gained new tools and a degree that is well respected to facilitate change.  Personally, I stated that I am proud of myself, and I stand taller.  Because my children are my world, even more with my priorities shifting in age, I feel that I have accomplished a goal that will now be a baseline achievement for my adult children as they continue their post high-school education.  It makes me incredibly happy and satisfied to her my children tell me that they are proud of me in my accomplishment that is finalizing this week. 

Professionally, I intend to utilize this degree and my gained knowledge to advance my career in leadership.  Educationally, I have decided to beef up on my certifications and then head back to school for my MBA.
