For this case study, imagine you work for a large health services employer in the county. You have recently been appointed to serve on the organization’s Wellness Committee. At the first meeting, committee members discuss ways to improve the health and overall wellness of employees in the organization. Many suggestions are offered and the group begins to craft a plan for what to implement, when it will be implemented, why it is important, etc.
The Chair of the committee, however, responds that a full report will need to be developed to present to management. This report has two overarching aims: 1) to seek approval for a set of wellness activities and 2) to request resources to move forward with the committee and its activities. This report also needs to be provided to the staff of the organization to elicit buy-in and participation. In this week’s class discussion, we will continue the dialogue of the Committee, exploring how this report should be developed and disseminated.

We so often write in one voice, despite the audience. In this scenario, you are asked to consider two audiences – the management and fellow staff. Based on what you have learned so far this term, what are the risks and/or benefits of creating the same report for both audiences?
Now applying your readings to the remaining questions:
When putting together a report asking for resources to implement the committee’s activity plans, what strategies would work best with managers? What data would you want to include?
What might be different in our report in our effort to persuade staff to use the wellness resources and engage in the activities? What information would you include in the report to the staff?
What might be some challenges to meaningfully applying the writing process to writing a report as part of a group, such as this committee? What might be some of the advantages?
