Major Challenges Faced By Tourism Companies
[ad_1]
Traditionally, managing a company simply means making it run and fixing problems the moment they appear. As future leaders of the tourism industry, you must see operations not merely as a run-and-fix-it function but also as a forward-looking process; operating a company is both a reactive and proactive process. One looks at fixing issues and problems as a reactive approach, while also innovating and developing new methods, ideas, and processes as a proactive approach.
Each company has varying ways how it overcomes operational challenges. Additionally in a healthy state, companies also ask themselves, “what new ideas, or products, or services can we come up to further enhance our competitive edge?”
This case study is also a great way to connect and network with stakeholders, tour operators, company owners, and managers in the tourism industry.
Instructions:
Interview a manager (preferably an operations manager) of a tourism-related operator, or company, or paid attraction. Then, synthesize your interview (please do not transcribe) and discuss the following:
Part 1 — major challenges that the company has experienced throughout the years. You may refer to some or all of the examples to be discussed in class. Explore other challenges that may not necessarily be discussed.
Part 2 — strategies, methods, tools, and/or other means that they conducted or performed to improve their operations and solve challenges mentioned in Part 1. Develop questions to ask your interviewee that revolve around the elements of efficiency, cost, and quality.
Part 3 — your team’s collective insight and critique whether the company conducted the correct approach or whether there would be a better way. What recommendations could you suggest in making the company’s operations even better, beyond how they currently operate.
It is expected that all operations scenarios are pre-COVID-19.
