In this module, you will examine how engineers through their work can help lead to greater equality for those with disabilities. As you watch these videos and read the articles in this module, think about how you as an engineer can be involved in design to help equal the playing field for people with disabilities.
First, let’s learn about what Assistive Technology is. Start by watching the following video. It gives a broad overview of what Assistive Technology is and the types of tools it includes:

The Assistive Technology Industry Association publishes a peer-reviewed journal of research in this field. To get an idea of the kinds of detailed research that is done, read at least three abstracts of articles in the journal “Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits.” Some selected articles can be read without subscribing to their journal here.
