Energy Policy Assignment,
The energy policy choices made by state and federal government authorities have many impacts. These include air quality (pollution), global climate change, the economy, foreign aid, military presence in other countries, your life, the lives of others, jobs, and determines current and future opportunities.
We’ve discussed many issues in this course and while good science is critical, politics is the driving force that allows solutions to flounder or to be developed and implemented. While some solutions are based more in myth than fact; your job is analyze energy policy in a factual essay and come to well- reasoned recommendations on what a U.S. energy policy should be. This is your opportunity learn the issue and to prepare yourself to answer questions in the final exam.
Energy Policy Assignment
In your paper, discuss energy sources (non-renewables, renewables) and practices (efficiency) and how they impact air pollution, acid deposition, global climate change, the economy, etc., and whether they move us away or towards sustainability. While opinions are important and valuable, this paper is to be factual—provide statistics to support your conclusion and recommendation(s).
You need only use the text book and course lectures but may use other sources.
Open your essay with an overview
(about 1 paragraph): explain the issue (what the essay is about—U.S. energy policy), the problems
with current energy sources (largely non-renewables) and how renewables and energy efficiency solve these problems.
In subsequent paragraphs, provide data on current uses of energy sources (what they are and how they are used). Address fossil fuel use, oil imports, how oil is used (transportation, etc.), air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, global climate change and any other issues you’d like to address.
Once you have explained the problem areas, provide evidence that supports a solution. This section must address efficiency and renewables.
Next, make a conclusion (make a comprehensive statement of your findings), and follow this with a well-reasoned recommendation.
