We have developed our critical thinking skills this semester, and it is time to put them to practice! It is easy to congratulate ourselves for being good critical thinkers when confronted with ridiculous memes or silly statements on Facebook, but how do you do against a flashy Hollywood documentary presented as fact?
Do we discount an entire documentary as false? Or do we accept the whole thing as truth? It’s much more complicated than that. Keep in mind your fallacies, biases, and put on your critical thinking caps, we are critiquing two documentary films.

(2 points) 1. What techniques does the Intro to the movie use to draw you into the story? What type of hook is used? What is the Intro’s intended message/agenda? Who are the “good/bad” guys? ( 5 sentences minimum)

You can find examples of flawed reasoning in newspapers, advertisements, and other sources. (2 points) 3. Objective and subjective visual techniques were used throughout the film. How do all these components add up to create the overall persuasive argument of the film and cite examples of each? ( 5 sentences minimum)
(4 points) 4. Pseudoscience describes any belief system or methodology which tries to gain legitimacy by wearing the trappings of science, but fails to abide by the rigorous methodology and standards of evidence that are the marks of true science. Prove one “fact” from the documentary as blatant truth or blatant lie. Use a LEGITIMATE reference to support your argument and summarize your source. Make sure to include citation.
