Building on your thinking in Units 1-2 and using at least 4 sources you locate, write a research paper of 2200-3200 words in which you explore some point of tension in contemporary action film. You will decide upon and develop your own topic (with approval), find, utilize and cite sources of your choice, and craft an essay that meets the requirements of a formal research paper.
In order to be successful, you must define a research question for investigation that you can effectively address within the scope of the assignment. As in Units 1 & 2, make sure that you have effectively introduced your readers to the concepts which you discuss in your paper. Your audience in this paper should be at least college-level, but you should be more specific about your target primary/secondary/etc. audiences. Please include:
o Page numbers on each page; your name at the top of the paper. Margins=.5” Spacing =1.5 Font: 11- 12ish, and nothing weird.
o Cover letters for draft and revision
o Title, clearly orienting the reader to your topic.
o Works Cited, or Bibliography, appearing at the end of the paper, which does NOT count toward
your total word count. Bibliography must be single spaced with a hanging indent.
o Please locate and use sources of your choice. I expect you to use at least 4 new non-film sources
(most commonly journal articles, book chapters and interviews) which you find. You may use sources from Units 1-2 as additional source material (but you must have at least 4 new sources). I am leaving the decision to each of you as to how many sources (beyond the minimum of 4 new sources) you must use to support your research paper.
o Copies of the actual sources used. More instructions on how to do this will follow in class. Given this requirement, it would behoove you to download and/or scan of your source material as you locate it, so that you don’t have to scramble for the material on the day it’s due.
