There are otherwise no particular formatting requirements for your responses, except as specifically indicated.
Each of your responses must be expressed in your own words. The copying of text from any source (including course content such as lecture and tutorial material), with or without subsequent changing of a few words, is not permitted.
Additional Readings
All questions can be answered on the basis of knowledge acquired from lectures and tutorials or from specifically provided additional material. There is no requirement or expectation for additional reading. Should you desire to reference any additional material, APA format is appropriate.

Marking Criteria
The assignment consists of multiple sections, each with a nominated number of associated marks. Each section consists of multiple questions, each contributing a specified number of marks. Note that there is not necessarily any relationship between the number of marks allocated to a question and either the number of components that form the response or the total length of the response. That is, the response to a question worth 3 marks does not necessarily have 3 components and is not necessarily expected to be longer than the response to a question worth 2 marks.
Expectations about the approximate length of the written component of the response (AEL = “approximate expected length”) to each question are provided (where appropriate). Responses with lengths that substantially exceed these expectations may receive a reduction in marks, particularly if the additional material is extraneous and irrelevant. Note that images (figures or diagrams) that support the written content are not required (except where specifically indicated), but may be included in any response if desired.
The assignment is marked out of 100 and contributes 40% to the final mark for the course.

Extensions
Unless there are valid and substantial medical or other circumstances, no extensions for this assignment will be granted. Applications for extensions must be submitted using the MyUNSW Special Consideration system.
Due Date
The assignment is due by 11:55pm Friday 20th November. Late submissions will be allowed but a penalty rate of 2% per day it is late will be applied. All late submissions must be received by 11:55pm Friday 4th December.
- (3 marks; AEL: a few sentences) Imagine that there is a soccer ball, a tennis ball, and a golf ball (instead of the three soccer balls) and that you are trying to determine the relative depth relationships among the three balls. Explain how having the three different types of ball affects your potential use of “constant physical size” and “familiar physical size” information to disambiguate the retinal size cue to depth.
- d) (3 marks; AEL: a few sentences) Imagine a hypothetical scenario in which there was one depth cue that provided a much more reliable estimate of a soccer ball’s depth than other cues, and that this increased reliability was evident through repeated instances of feedback obtained from the act of kicking the ball. With reference to the Ernst, Banks, & Bülthoff (2000) study that was considered in tutorials, explain the potential effect of such feedback within the process of depth cue combination.
