imagined and presented in a work of speculative fiction. The intention of this assignment is to have you work on
a case on which, like an ethnographer, you have some first-hand expertise by virtue of having read, viewed, been
a fan of, spoken to others about, and built a knowledge of the case you have chosen.

The assignment has two components: (1) an investigation and ethnographic description of the culture of your case
study, which is to be based on your first-hand knowledge of the way in which it is represented in literature or film;
and (2) developing a research proposal that outlines the framework for a research project that, were the case real
and were you an anthropologist, you might conduct in order to better understand this particular people or society.
