The student will provide a scholarly explanation of his/her personal philosophy of nursing. The meta-paradigm of nursing (i.e., person, environment, health, and nursing) must be included when formulating the student’s personal philosophy (i.e., set of beliefs). Students will review the information provided by textbooks and recommended readings to develop and express his/her philosophy of nursing, by focusing on new insights gained from the course readings, and the influence the readings had on his/her philosophy.

Assignment Criteria:
- Explain personal philosophy of nursing (i.e., beliefs about the meta-paradigm).
- Identify two philosophical influences.
- Describe how those philosophical foundations influence the student’s nursing practice and provide at least two specific examples.
- Discuss how positivism and post-positivism influence the different approaches (qualitative and quantitative) to nursing science (research methods) and nursing practice.
- The scholarly paper should be in narrative format, 3 to 4 pages excluding the title and reference page.
- Include an introductory paragraph, purpose statement, and a conclusion.
- Include level 1 and 2 headings to organize the paper.
- Write the paper in third person, not first person (meaning do not use ‘we’ or ‘I’) and in a scholarly manner. To clarify: I, we, you, me, our may not be used. In addition, describing yourself as the researcher or the author should not be used.
- Include professional at least (3) peer-reviewed scholarly journal references to support the paper (review in Ulrich Periodical Directory) and be less than five (5) years old.
- APA format is required (attention to spelling/grammar, a title page, a reference page, and in-text citations). All references must include DOIs
- Submit the assignment to Turnitin prior to the final submission, review the originality report, and make any needed changes.
- Submit to the Assignment Drop Box by the posted due date.
