Embalming Process

Embalming Process

[ad_1]

You receive a standard case in your preparation room, which is an 87 year old female who passed two hours prior of natural causes. She weighs 110 pounds, and has no visible discolorations or concerning conditions, such as dehydration, edema or jaundice. The first step in the embalming process will be to clean the body, set the features, then raise the carotid artery and jugular vein for injection and drainage. Walk me through some of the instruments you would use during these first few processes, and why you selected them.

Answer the discussion board first then Reply to two other people saying you agree or degree and why or why not?

First person to respond to is:
1. To start, I would remove clothing and any medical bracelets with scissors or as carefully as possible if the family would like those items returned. To ensure the body is up properly on the table, I would use arm, head and leg blocks to properly secure the body. I would then use a sponge and soap to clean the body to disinfect and clean and dry with a towel. Using cotton and disspray, I will clean the ears, nose, mouth and any other open areas and aspirate if necessary. I would then use an S-curved needle with wax-coated thread to close the mouth. I would use eye caps and a mouth guard if needed inserted with an aneurysm hook. To properly find the carotid and jugular, using a scalpel to open the area and aneurysm hooks to lift the proper arteries and veins would be ideal. Using these is also necessary to separate the arteries. Using an aneurysm needle, I would make a small incision halfway through the top layer of the jugular and carotid for insertion of the direct tube with hemostats to hold the tubing in place.

Second person to respond to:
2. I would first spray disinfecting spray in the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. I would use cotton wrapped around straight spring forceps to swab each oral orifice in a circular motion. To clean the body, I would use disinfecting soap and water on a sponge. After thoroughly cleaning the body, I would rinse the body and begin to set features. To set the eyes, I would use an aneurysm hook to raise the eyelids and insert eye caps. To set the mouth, I would most likely use a needle injector to put a barb wire in the mandbile and maxilla. I would then twist the two wires together and hide them inside of the mouth. I would use my fingers to mold a natural smile on the face of the deceased. To raise the carotid artery, I would use a scalpel or a sharp pair of scissors to cut through the skin. I would use an aneurysm hook to seperate tissue and help to locate the carotid artery and jugular vein. Once the carotid artery and jugular vein are located, I would use the aneurysm hook to raise each while using string to tie them off individually. I would then use scissors to make a small incision in the carotid artery before inserting the arterial tube. I would also use an arterial hemostat to tie it off as well. I would then use scissors to make a small snip into the jugular vein right before inserting a groove director. I would then use a pair of angular spring forceps between the wall of the vein and the groove director. I would move the groove director in (open) and out (closed) to remove blood clots while draining. For more information on Embalming Process read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embalming
