Hi professor and class,One conclusion that I found interesting and applicable to practice is that nurses should identify patients at risk factors for dry eyes upon admission to the intensive care unit. According to De Araujo, Silva, Rodrigues, Silva, Macieira, & Chian (2019) suggests that nurses upon performing a physical examination or reviewing of the patients’ health record should be able to identify patients at risk for dry eyes. Therefore, preventing and implementing early interventions for dry eye is the goal to decrease the incidence or complications states De Araujo, Silva, Rodrigues, Silva, Macieira, & Chian (2019). In this study, the artificial tear gel was more beneficial for the patients in the ICU to prevent dry eyes. These studies help identify the best treatment through research for the patients. Nursing should be educated about the best evidenced based practiced such as the artificial tear gel for the prevention of dry eyes. Education and communication amongst the healthcare team is important to enhance care of the patient and know the most current evidence-based practice. According to Houser (2018) patient’s outcomes improve when care is based on evidence from research studies versus clinical expertise alone.I would disseminate research-based evidence by PowerPoint and poster presentations with my fellow coworkers. Communicating and sharing of evidence, Chamberlain College of nursing (2018) cites to colleagues, peers, and other healthcare professionals to promote the best most current evidence. The more knowledge I share with my colleagues the more the information is passed on and patient care improves through the best evidence-based practice.
