Directions:
ACME Widgets has about 900 users and about 1000 computers in all 3 divisions, including U.S. and offshore facilities. Please review the Module 02 Project Assignment background information for more details about current Active Directory logical design based on the organizational chart. You are hired as a consultant for ACME Widgets. The IT management would like to organize Active Directory to ensure AD security but also make it easier to manage. For this discussion address the following questions:
- What is the difference between OUs and user Groups in Active Directory? When and why would you use OUs or Groups?
- List and explain the best practices for Active Directory OU design.
- Apply these best practices to ACME Widgets Active Directory design. Review the current OU design, which is based on duplicating the organizational chart and propose any improvements.
- ACME Widgets corporate managers and officers have user accounts and use computers registered in AD. Where (in what domain, container, or OU) should these user and computer accounts be created? Explain you reasoning.
