F- Africa in the World: Historical Perspectives



This question paper consists of 5 pages.
General Instructions:
• The duration of this examination is 48 hours/2 days. You must complete and upload your
answers within this stipulated time.
• You are provided an additional one hour to submit your answer scripts after the official
examination time. Submissions made after the official examination time will be rejected by
the examination regulations and will not be marked.
• You must upload your answer scripts in a single PDF file (answer scripts must not be
password protected or uploaded as “read only” files)
• NO emailed scripts will be accepted.
• You are advised to preview submissions (answer scripts) to ensure legibility and that the
correct answer script file has been uploaded.
• You are permitted to resubmit your answer scripts should your initial submission be
unsatisfactory.
• Incorrect file format and uncollated answer scripts will not be considered.
• Incorrect answer scripts and/or submissions made on unofficial examination platforms
(including the invigilator cellphone application) will not be marked and no opportunity will be
granted for resubmission.

• Mark awarded for incomplete submission will be your final mark. No opportunity for

Compiling answers offline
Now that you have downloaded your question paper, you can go offline to read the questions and
either type your answers on a laptop/desktop or write your answers on sheets of paper and later
convert your answers to PDF for uploading onto myExams.
Preparing your answers for submission:
Handwritten answers:
• If the submission is hand-written, write with a black pen, not a pencil.
• The first page should clearly state your name, student number and the module code.
• The last page should include the declaration statement (see page 3 for instructions).
• Number all the pages.
• Remember to scan and convert your handwritten answers to a single PDF file.
• Ensure that your file is not password-protected.

• You should select any five (5) of these questions to answer.
• Each answer should be between about 15 and 20 lines in length (approximately 150 to 200
words).
• Each answer carries 20 marks.
• This is an open-book examination. You may consult your study material or any other relevant
sources in preparing your answers.
• Each answer should be properly referenced. Make sure that you acknowledge all sources
that you consult in accordance with the Department style and requirements.
• Each paragraph answer should have at least one footnote ref erence, and a complete
bibliography should appear at the end of your answers.
• You are expected to work alone in preparing your answers.
• You are expected to write in your own words, except if you use brief quotations from a source,
which should be properly acknowledged.
• Do not copy large blocks of information directly from any source, even with a footnote
reference as an acknowledgement.
