She traces the growth of social engagement, attention to language and communication intent. For this discussion, explain how language (receptive and expressive) is a reflection of cognitive growth. Cite specific examples of the growing sophistication in the child’s interactions. For example, at what point does undifferentiated behavior become goal directed behavior? When does the child use purposeful gestures? When do words begin to replace those gestures?
