This assignment deals with hospital statistics and spreadsheet data management. You will prepare the daily floor census spreadsheet and calculate the daily floor totals.
Make sure you pay attention to the “Patients Remaining from Last Report” section on the Patient Census Data sheet. You will need that number to calculate the “Remaining Midnight” number on the Excel spreadsheet. Also, do not forget to calculate the A&D total. The A&D total is the number of patients admitted and then discharged within the same day. This means you will find those patients listed under both the admitting column and the discharge column.
A task that is closely related to Utilization Management is tracking how many patients are in the hospital at any given time, which patients are transferred or discharged on a daily basis, and how many others are admitted. The daily census is important for financial reasons, staffing, and tracking trends.

Based on this information, prepare and calculate the daily floor census for the Orthopedic unit using the Daily Floor Census Excel template linked below. Use military time to record entries in chronological order. Note any A & D’s (patients admitted and discharged the same day) in the field next to your signature.
Once the data is entered you do need to calculate the daily floor totals.
