The Aging Process and Long Term Health Care
There are key issues discussed in our readings which focus upon the aging process and long-term health care. There are calls for age-based rationing of health care as proposed by Callahan in chapter 10 of the Tong Text (2007). In the same chapter, Kass talks about the notion that “death helps us to be serious about life.” He also notes that “Mortality makes life matter” (p. 255).
Tong asserts that perhaps Kass is right: “Immortality may not be all that is cracked up to be. Death may be a friend, after all” (p. 253).
