Hi Rita, thanks for responding. You noted “…The Baldrige award is a better predictor of organizational success…” Whereas your observation seems logical, your observation is not supported by research unless you have found some research that I haven’t been able to find. Conversely, there is a body of research that supports the assertion that employee engagement (like Best Places to Work) is indeed correlated to positive financial results. Two studies, reported by Kenexa (2008) noted:
- The relationship between employee engagement and annual net income was explored in 64 organizations. After controlling for organization size, the analyses showed that organizations with highly engaged employees achieve twice the annual net income of organizations whose employees lag behind on engagement
- The relationship between employee engagement and TSR was examined in 39 separate . The results indicate that organizations with highly engaged employees achieve seven times greater 5-year TSR than organizations whose employees are less engaged.
Schneider and Macey (2009) described a study where engagement of employees in certain industries and companies compared to financial results and customer satisfaction results. In their study of the airline, hospitality, and telecom industries, there was a direct correlation between an index of financial results and employee engagement.
Can anyone share research that correlates winning the Baldrige Award to sustained exceptional financial performance?
