Course Description
This course focuses on the synthesis of nursing knowledge and skills to perform a comprehensive health assessment of individuals across the lifespan. Students practice health assessment skills in laboratory settings.
Prerequisites
Registered Nurse.  Admission to the RN-BSN Program
Course Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Professionalism: Exhibit behaviors that reflect professional values, empathy, and the concept of caring in developing nurse/patient relationships. Integrate knowledge of legal, ethical, and professional values and standards in the assessment and nursing care of patients and their families in a variety of settings and levels of wellness and illness.
Patient-Centered Care: Demonstrate increasing skill in the assessment of clients across the lifespan, understanding normal and abnormal variations in assessment findings, while recognizing clients and their families as unique individuals with varied preferences, values, and needs.
Evidence-Based Practice (EBP): Integrate evidence-based practice into health assessment techniques and approaches across the life span.
Informatics & Technology: Utilize technology and information systems to facilitate, document, and improve patient assessment.
Quality Improvement: Explore quality improvement initiatives in collecting and responding to health assessment findings to improve patient outcomes.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Evidence teamwork and interprofessional collaboration and communication in shared decision-making towards quality patient care as it relates to health assessment.

Wellness and Prevention: Integrate patient care measures that support wellness and health promotion, health maintenance, health restoration, and disease prevention to promote healthy patient outcomes.
Leadership: Explore the role of the nurse as a leader regarding advocacy and patient education, as it relates to holistic health assessment.
Safety: Prioritize the promotion of safe environments for patients, others, and self, based on holistic health assessment findings.

Grading Policy and Criteria
Specific guidelines and grading criteria for all assignments are in the Modules. Final grades for the course will be
determined based upon the following point assignments:
A – 90-100
B – 80-89
C – 75-79
D – 60-74
F – Below 60
Final course grades less than 75 are not rounded up.
Students will have course grades calculated based on the weighted calculation of exams and other required coursework. The weighted calculation must be 75% or above to pass the course.
Late policy: 5% will be deducted each day an assignment is past due unless prior arrangements have been made with your course faculty. Extenuating circumstances may apply.
Completion of RNBS 3312.060/.061 is based on satisfactory attainment of all course criteria. Any student failing to meet the course objectives and expectations must repeat the course and may not progress to the next level and/or meet graduation requirements.
*Please note, all major assignments (Health History, Annotated Bibliographies, and Head to Toe Assessment) AND all four Exams must be completed to pass the course.
