How to differentiate among the diagnoses in sexual disorder
how to differentiate among the diagnoses in sexual disorder categories and among the diagnoses in substance-related and addictive disorders. Understanding how to recognize and treat sexual dysfunctions is important because many clients enter treatment to address sexual concerns. In addition, while substance-related disorders could exist independently, they often co-occur with other diagnoses (i.e., they occur in addition to other conditions, such as depression and anxiety) and are another reason people frequently seek counseling services.
Tasks:
In a minimum of 200 words, post to the Discussion Area your response to the following:
- Choose a minimum of two disorders from one of the sexual disorder categories reviewed in this module.
- Compare and contrast the symptoms (duration, severity, frequency, etc.) and developmental and cultural considerations.
- Discuss potential treatment options for the disorders chosen.
- Choose two different substances and compare the withdrawal symptoms and the treatment risks associated with withdrawal. Discuss the difference between abuse and dependence and how this is addressed in the DSM.
Support your rationale and analysis by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response. Professional literature may include the National Louis University online library resources; relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (websites ending in .edu or .gov).
