Disseminating evidence and quality improvement projects can be accomplished with internal and external methods. My capstone improvement project aims to reduce or eliminate falls within the home after discharge from hospitalization. Providing the evidence gathered to internal and external stakeholders and parties interested is a good way to gain support and promote a change. In the case of home-care fall prevention, the at-home organizations within the community would be the first to receive information to produce an internal response to a change proposal. An external stakeholder may be an organization such as the ANA or state board of nursing. Communicating this evidence to both of these parties is important when gaining support and promotion of an evidence-based change will educate providers about a change of practice as they are some of the largest driving forces when making an evidence-based change(Ellrodt et al. 2001). Communication between the presenter and these internal and external parties will differ according to the population addressed. Nurses need to adapt their communication styles and techniques to align with the audience they are addressing(Bakker et al. 2022). Presenting a change idea to the internal audience will involve more specific interventions with specificities of the organization and population involved. This will create a concise proposal to the individuals who are managers and educators of the organizations completing tasks. Presenting a change idea to the external audience will involve a more generalized and holistic intervention idea that will be applicable to a population that would benefit from the change. Presenting data points and ideas of change for something like the increased intervention and awareness of fall risk prevention will be using the same data sets, but will vary in the examples given to either a large external organization or the operating internal departments or hospitals. In both cases, the nurse should use evidence-based practice data that will support the change proposal to give legitimacy to their proposal. Creating unique examples and explaining how it can specifically help individuals will provide a support to the argument for change.
