help with javascript code need display cleared within function

Hi, I need help adjusting my current JavaScript code to clear the display each time you click the button “Create List”. I have tried creating an additional function to clear the display, however the function does not work as I want it to. See the attached word document of current HTML and JavaScript code.

Please provide the additional function and or revision to the code I have provided, that will make the list of nodes clear and relist the A through E nodes. As it stands currently, if you click “Create List” again, it adds the first 5 set nodes (Nodes A though Node E), to the bottom of the list. I need the previous list removed, including any nodes that were added to the list by entering in the text box and clicking Add Node to List.

All current functionality should remain the same in that the Create List button creates a list of 5 set notes (Nodes A through E) and the Add Node to List button will add the additional node with the value entered in the text box to the end of the list.
