The United States’ economy and society experienced a roller coaster ride of changes from 1915 through 1945. Americans who lived through this time period experienced World War I, the robust prosperity and good times of the 1920s, the suffering and hardship of the Great Depression throughout the 1930s, and the militaristic mobilization of World War II. One theme that runs through these massive changes is the relationship of the U.S. economy to society. The goal of this Discussion Forum is to explore that relationship. Drawing on the course readings and other learning materials, please create several posts that:
- Compare and contrast the relationship between the U.S. economy and its society during times of war and times of peace?
- For example, what kinds of shifts in economic priorities occurred among Americans between World War I and the 1920s?
- How did those priorities change again as the nation plunged into the Great Depression?
- Analyze how World War I and such events as the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia affected American attitudes and policies toward immigrants
- Examine how the economic and social changes of this time period affected women, African Americans, and workers.
- Describe how the changes nationally were reflected in your hometowns.
Please create several posts on this forum during our module. Use the assigned readings from our online texts as well as the research you have been gathering in the Personalizing History Project and Re-Thinking U.S. History Wiki to support your arguments. Please comment on each others’ postings with substantive responses.
