Finding out what her reasons are for being reluctant and also educate her on her options to help her with her decision. If she decided to go a different route of feeding after breastfeeding education then find out what options she wants to go with and her knowledge of safely handling it and making sure the infant is receiving enough nutrition. (Family Education, 2016). I would like to keep open communication and find out her reasons for being reluctant because with my children I was that reluctant mother. I had situations where nurses were very closed off and made it know that they did not agree with my decisions on formula feeding and then I had nurses that found out why I was uncomfortable with breastfeeding and my reasons for being reluctant about it. Having them take the time to find out my reasons made the patient-nurse relationship better. Then I was more open to talk about formula feeding and make sure I was knowledgeable about giving them the right nutrition going that route. As a nurse we have to educate that breastfeeding is very healthy for everyone involved but if they still decide to formula feed that feeding the infant is ultimately the most important factor no matter what route they go with.
