Treatment Plan

Treatment Plan

In this 7 page assignment, you will compare developmental treatment plan options for the given scenario and discuss strategies and interventions for the client including a relevant crisis management plan.

You have been hired as a counselor to work with one of the client’s from the following case.

Connor is an 85yo man who left school at 16. He has never had a job that lasted longer than a few months. He has a history of criminal offenses (burglary, shoplifting). He is an alcoholic and is believed to have been drinking heavily since the age of 17. He has two adult children by different women. Both partners have said that he was violent towards them.

His daughter, Laura (age 27), has a history of cocaine abuse which started in her early teens.  A child protection agency has established that Laura recently left her child (Samantha – aged 6 years) on her own when she went out to obtain drugs. She is attending parenting classes at the insistence of the child protection agency, who have made it clear that they will take steps to prevent Samantha remaining in Laura’s care if she does not address her drug habit.  Laura is often depressed and has little self-esteem. In spite of Connor’s history of violence towards her, she and her daughter continue to live with him, as she looks to him for security and financial support.

Samantha (age 6) is a first grader who is experiencing both academic and behavioral issues at school.  At home, she is often left to fend for herself and craves attention from both her mother and grandfather, who are her only caregivers.  Samantha’s father is in jail and she has not seen him since she was 2 years old. Samantha’s parents were never married.

The family are living below the poverty line in a borough of NYC.  They belong to a Catholic church, but do not attend regularly.  Connor and Laura are white, non-hispanic, and belong to an Irish-American culture.  Samantha is of mixed race; her father is black and comes from African-American culture. Samantha rarely sees her paternal grandparents, who live in another NYC borough, but they call her periodically to say hello and tell her how much they love her.

Choose one client and examine their presenting issues from a developmental perspective.  Outline a basic treatment plan with SMART (S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-Oriented and Timely) goals and appropriate interventions strategies to meet your goals. Be sure your intervention strategies are comprehensive and multidimensional.  Discuss ethical and multicultural concerns as it relates to your chosen client and their presenting problem/issues.

Your final product will be a 7 page Word document written in APA format, utilizing at least six scholarly sources. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
