This week, we explored ways to define religion and the impact of religion on cultures globally. For your Unit 1 Complete assignment, write a narrative (minimum 1000 words) in which you address and discuss the questions and statements listed below. Engage at least three scholarly sources and remember to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the READ and ATTEND sections.
• Draft your own definition of religion based on the lecture and reading assignment. Indicate why you chose each element of your definition.
• Pull out of Chapter 2 other defining characteristics of native religions and compare and contrast the elements discussed with your own definition.
• Finally, based on Internet research, show how at least three specific, contemporary indigenous spiritual paths (from three different cultures or people groups) are related to these characteristics. How do these paths fit the definitions of religion you’ve explored to this point? In what ways? Be specific.
TIP: Remember to support your discussion drawing on sources as appropriate. SHOW your reader why you say what you do. Remember to assume an “interested, educated, but uninformed reader.” What key details would such a reader need to follow your discussion and argument and to arrive at the conclusion you lead them to step by step, paragraph by paragraph?
