Self-assessment is a lifelong process. Many life events change how we view situations. Reflect on everything that you have learned in this course.
Tasks:
In a minimum of 200 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:
- Identify two areas in which you learned the most and how these might affect your counseling.
- As a self-assessment, identify two areas in which you need additional information and knowledge for further growth and development.
- Explain at least three ways in which you plan to expand your multicultural competence and advocacy skills after this course.
- As you took the multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills survey (MAKSS) in Module 1, explain what you learned from this self-assessment.
My self-Reflection:
Support your rationale and analysis by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response. Professional literature may include the NLU online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (websites ending in .edu or .gov).
This class was more likely a review for me. Why well I was born and raised in NYC we are the melting pot capital of the world. I was raised by parents who believed everyone is equal and we should always treat others with kindness and dignity. My parents also believed I didn’t know was not a good excuse- you don’t know then go learn, explore, and ask questions. So that is what I would always do if I did not know about a culture or religion.
Second, I work as educator for the public school system and again all my schools are diverse from low income- to rich, ethnicity and religion is diverse, with high population of students with various disabilities and mental issues. My school district provides yearly mandatory trainings for all employees on Diversity and Multiculturalism.
