RA 2: Case Review and Treatment Plan Paper
In this assignment, you will practice applying systematic treatment (theories, approaches, and techniques) to a client with a specific sexual problem.
Directions:
In this assignment, you will:
- Create a scenario involving an individual or couple presenting with a sexual disorder (e.g., sexual desire problems, erectile disorder, ejaculatory disorder, female arousal problems, orgasmic difficulties, and genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder) or paraphilia (e.g., exhibitionism and pedophilia).
- Provide a larger context, describing the intrapsychic, interpersonal, and cultural factors/experiences that could be influencing the sexuality issue being presented. Provide a background on the disorder or paraphilia, as well as critiques regarding how the problem is constructed, citing recent literature (including the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [DSM]). Be sure to cover:
- Techniques of sexuality-related assessment and diagnosis of psychosexual disorders or paraphilias.
- Theory and method of approach to intervention in evaluation and evidence-based treatment of the psychosexual disorder(s) or paraphilia.
- Recent trends in medical treatments and impact of these on therapy.
- Build an effective treatment plan, noting overall goals (at least three), behavioral objectives, therapeutic strategies, behavior skills or outcomes, and indicators demonstrating that the client has met targeted outcomes. Provide a rationale for every step of the process.
- Give special attention to implications for evaluating sexual disorders or paraphilias, including information related to relationships, sociocultural structures, psychological concerns, appropriate biomedical issues, and diversity issues in treatment. Include the relationship between intimacy and communication and how it impacts expressions of sexuality, contributes to sexual dysfunction, and influences therapeutic interventions.
Note: You can draw upon what you’ve learned about couple and family therapy, applying such knowledge to the specialized area of sex counseling.
