Choose and share any major controversial policy proposal currently under consideration by a local, state or federal legislature. Develop a response to the following:
- State the name of the policy proposal.
- Identify what their most ardent advocates would want, no matter the ideology, whether it is conservative or liberal.
- Then, identify some of the concessions these advocates might consider in supporting to make it more likely that it would be enacted. (Use examples like national immigration policy, enactment of specific policies to decrease economic inequality, gun control ownership, decriminalization of marijuana, proposals to allow individuals with terminal illnesses to end their lives OR any policy initiative with which you are familiar).
- Finally, discuss why macro policy advocates favor your chosen policy.
- Describe how macro policy advocates engage the eight challenges.
- Describe how to identify key players to connect with in the development of a macro advocacy policy initiative
- Discuss how they are likely to encounter others with divergent views. Identify some concessions that these macro policy advocates might need to make in order to get their policy adopted.
