ExxonMobil
The purpose of the Team Research Project is to apply course concepts to a specific global organization. In MBA 517, the assigned readings consists of three parts: environmental foundation, the role of culture, and organization behavior and human resource management. For each part, you will address questions as they relate to one organization: ExxonMobil.
We will establish teams early in the semester. You should discuss your responses with your team after each of the three parts are completed (see schedule). Please do not wait until late in the semester to start the project- this is a semester long project.
Be sure to supplement your responses with textbook material, but also use outside resources to support your responses. Many of these outside resources should be peer-reviewed articles (see Peer Reviewed Articles). Also note how the Team Final Project will be evaluated (see last page of the syllabus).
All questions are in the context of doing business internationally. Define and describe all terms, and use references to support your responses (i.e., critical thinking).
Part One: Environmental Foundation
- What political, legal, and technological challenges does ExxonMobil face? How should ExxonMobil address these challenges?
- Describe ExxonMobil’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Ethics initiatives. Are these initiatives aligned with ExxonMobil’s mission? Does ExxonMobil’s CSR efforts provide a competitive advantage?
