Instructions
To begin, choose one of the following topics that the United States has contemplated about our shared future:
- Should daylight savings time be made permanent?
- Should K-12 schools have longer school days?
- Should a college degree be free?
These topics are provided to give you an opportunity to practice structuring an argument, so don’t worry too much about which one to choose. The topic you choose is less important here than the structure and quality of the academic argument you will create. In order to create a strong and effective argument, you are going to use a CER framework (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) that is used frequently in scientific disciplines, but applicable to any academic discipline where you are making an argument using evidence.
