Topic: Cause and Effect

For the midterm and practice for our final research paper, you will be choosing your own cause and effect topics. Below are the steps and instructions you ​MUST FOLLOW.

Choosing your prompt:

You have a full range of what your topic can be. Think about a: social, political, environmental issue that you are passionate about. From this selection, narrow down a topic that you would like to write on.

Your papers topics​ SHOULD NOT​ be too general for example:

NO:​ The cause and effects of climate change.

It must be very specific, for instance

YES:​ Ocean pollution and the effects had on sea turtles in 2016.

*Please refer to your class readings and discussions, and slides to help you organize your essay. Remember to use specific examples and concrete details to support your ideas.

Directions to get approved for the exam:

1. You will use the “Cause and Effect Proposal Handout” given to you on canvas.
2. You must submit TWO (2) different topic proposal handouts. Each topic proposal will

   have: A cause, three effects (bullet points okay), and the link to a source you will use in

   the exam.

3. Once done I will go over both and choose the one that you can and will use on the exam.

   *If you do not write on the topic I select, your EXAM WILL NOT be graded

   ** If you are not approved for either topic, you will have to submit a new topic proposal idea before you are allowed to take the exam.

   ***If anyone turns in an exam without being approved for a topic, your exam ​WILL NOT BE GRADED.

Taking the exam and requirements:

**THE EXAM WILL ONLY WORK, IF YOU TAKE IT THROUGH GOOGLE CHROME. NOT JUST A GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE.

During the exam you will be recorded. You must provide a valid ID (School (college or High school), Passport, or a State ID is FINE). Just make sure your picture and first and last name appear on the ID.

You will be able to have two things while taking the exam.

(1) The Cause and Effect handout (2) Your outside source.

**I know that many of you do not have a printer, so you can have more than one tab open during the exam​, JUST BE AWARE THAT THE EXAM IS RECORDING ALL YOUR COMPUTER SCREENS and ALL OPEN TABS. .​ So if you are using anything other than those two approved things, your exam will not be graded.

Requirements

1. Submit your topic, effects, and outside source (HANDOUT) for approval by Sunday Nov. 15th 11:59p
2. You Must use only ONE (1) scholarly source and it must be CITED
3. Page length 1,000- 1, 200 words, this is about 3 pages MUST BE IN 12 point font and

   TIMES NEW ROMAN. MLA guidelines

   Final warning!​ DO NOT WRITE THE PAPER BEFORE THE EXAM!

You are being recorded, so the program will​ alert me and STOP your exam​ if you are not

typing your paper.

Due Date and Submitting Assignment

Exams will start Monday November 16 at 1pm Exams will close by Sunday November 22. 11:59pm
