The purpose of the Team Research Project is to apply course concepts to a specific global organization. In MBA 517, the assigned readings consists of three parts: environmental foundation, the role of culture, and organization behavior and human resource management. For each part, you will address questions as they relate to one organization: ExxonMobil.
We will establish teams early in the semester. You should discuss your responses with your team after each of the three parts are completed (see schedule). Please do not wait until late in the semester to start the project- this is a semester long project.
Be sure to supplement your responses with textbook material, but also use outside resources to support your responses. Many of these outside resources should be peer-reviewed articles (see Peer Reviewed Articles). Also note how the Team Final Project will be evaluated (see last page of the syllabus).
All questions are in the context of doing business internationally. Define and describe all terms, and use references to support your responses (i.e., critical thinking).
The Role of Culture
- Describe ExxonMobil’s organizational culture. Is it aligned with ExxonMobil’s Mission, Vision and/or Values?
- What challenges do you suppose ExxonMobil faces managing across cultures? Give illustrations.
- Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management
- What challenges does ExxonMobil face motivating employees in different countries? How should ExxonMobil address these challenges?
- Describe effective leadership across cultures as it relates to ExxonMobil. Propose changes, if any.
- How does/should ExxonMobil manage human resources across cultures?
