Interview with a Salesperson Assignment

All students will identify a professional salesperson whom they would like to interview. Please make sure that the majority of the person’s role is sales.

PRIOR to starting this assignment, students must:

1.) inform me of the name and position of the person you plan to interview, and

2.)share with me, at least one week PRIOR to the interview, the list of the 15 (or more) interview questions you plan to ask the salesperson.

3.) These components must be submitted to me and will be graded as the “proposal” for your paper (see grading rubric).

Interviews must be completed.

  1. a.)  all students will conduct their interviews with their salespersons in accordance with COVID19 guidelines,
  2. b.)  this could include both in-person interviews (following social distancing protocols), video conferencing interviews (preferred), or telephone interviews,
  3. c.)  all interviews, regardless of format, will be conducted with the highest level of

professionalism, including professional attire, professional behaviour (absolutely NO cell phones), and professional follow-up (thank you notes)

The interview will focus on sales background (education & training), best practices, a skills assessment of what is most important, key advice for new salespeople, the biggest challenges (and how to deal with them), the future of sales, etc.

Each student will then prepare a 1500-word paper that shares their findings. The paper should be professionally written in terms of both content and style. (Do not just regurgitate the answers from the interview.) Share how what the salesperson said jives with what we’ve been learning in the course (or how it doesn’t).

a.) The paper needs to include a cover page, page numbers, headings, references (if applicable), an appendix of the interview questions, etc.
