Rhetorical Analysis Assignment
Choose one of the following essays from the “Readings” for your rhetorical analysis assignment. All the three writers in their own ways discuss specific rhetorical techniques of effective writing for different situations. Your task is to write a rhetorical analysis that explains how this essay measures up as an effective example of a form that addresses some specific situation and purpose.

Write a 700-750 words essay that explains how this essay conforms to the specific rhetorical form and situation. Consider at least two stylistic/formal features in this essay, and analyze how these features convey the author’s purpose to the intended audience. Make sure that you write a well-organized and carefully written analysis that makes a specific point indicated in your thesis statement. Avoid mere summary or description. You want, instead, to look closely at how the author adheres to the form. Does the author make any interesting departures from the form? Does the author give any indication that they are following a set pattern? Is there reference to the rhetorical situation in the text of the work itself? Think about your points and consciously choose the features that are most interesting and important. You probably won’t comment on all of the features in the text.

Your introduction should be fairly brief. It will introduce readers to the example you have chosen, and via your thesis advance your claim: how well it fits within the form. Consider, too, your paragraphs. You will likely only have 3 or 4 paragraphs, depending on how long they are. Make the most of them and think about how you are using them to organize your ideas for your reader. Wrap up the major points of your analysis in the conclusion.
• Remember that mechanics count, so do please leave yourself time to take your paper through that all-important copy-editing and proof-reading process.
