Critical Reflection Paper Writing Assignment Help

General Information: In this assignment, students will engage in an in-depth critical reflection on an issue related to how a particular social movement organization utilizes social media. This reflection will require students to do some brief research, share a summary of what they learned, and then share their critical opinions of the social movement. Students must use course concepts/topics to inform their opinions in this assignment. The CRA will constitute 15% of the final course grade. If students have questions about the CRA, they should use the CRA Discussion Board available in Carmen.

In this assignment, you will do several things each detailed below and turn in the two parts (an informational report and a critical opinion) as one submission. You may use any platform you would like to complete this assignment (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, InDesign, etc.), but submissions must be uploaded as .pdf documents.

The Mundt, Ross, and Burnett (2018) reading on the Black Lives Matter movement’s use of social media assigned in Week 5 provides information that will likely be useful as you work through this assignment. Because this reading provides a great bit of detail on how BLM has used social media in the past, this is the only social movement that you may not select for analysis. For this assignment, it is useful to consider movements that are not yet mainstream. Consequently, there is a small portion of the grade dedicated to the novelty of the movement you select. See the rubric for more information on this and the grading structure generally.

PART 1: INFORMATIONAL REPORT

Your informational report should be a document that includes descriptive information about the social movement you chose to analyze. Ideally, this document will be visually appealing and summarize the information with less text than the critical opinion. You should share your report in a way that is appealing to those who will read it (i.e., your instructors and peers) and easily summarizes the required information.

  1. Identify your social movement: Tufekci (2017) describes social movements as individuals coming together in public spaces to intervene on some wrong that society should right or change it should make through collective, coordinated action. In this portion of the assignment, you will identify such a social movement. This section should provide answers to the following questions:
  2. What is the primary name under which the movement operates? Are there any other monikers used to identify the movement online? For instance, Black Lives Matter primarily uses this name, but also operates under BLM, #blacklivesmatter, and #blm. b. What is the collective identity of those individuals centrally involved in the social

movement? For instance, in the Black Lives Matter movement, many individuals may be involved in the effort, but the movement primarily centers on the collective identity of

Black Americans and their unique social, historic, economic, and political identities. This collective identity provides context for the specific wrongs committed against this group. c. What is the primary intervention focused on by the movement? In other words, what

change does the movement call for or what wrong has the movement identified that needs righting? For instance, the Black Lives Matter movement primarily calls for intervention and change related to policy brutality against Black Americans.  Critical Reflection Paper Writing Assignment Help

  1. Social movement research: Similar to Mundt et al. (2018) you will create a “database” of social

media accounts associated formally supporting the social movement you have selected. This must include accounts that either use the movement’s name as the title of the account or are organized around a hashtag (e.g., Black Lives Matter, BLM, or #blacklivesmatter) from at least three social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). You will likely find many social media accounts for your movement. Peruse them and select at least three pages/accounts from each platform (totaling nine) that have significant activity and document the following information about the pages:

  1. The location where and date when the accounts were started (when available) b. Stated nature of affiliation with the movement c. All aggregate user representation information available (distinguish deliberate and

incidental forms of representations) d. Information in the “about me” or description section of the account e. Identify themes of the movement emphasized on the account. You will need to review many of the posts on the account to get a sense of what the main message of each account is. Summarize the primary message(s) shared by each account individually.

  1. Using the social media accounts you identified in the social movement research, identify social media strategies used and risks posed to the movement: The readings in Week 5 all identify particular ways that social media allow social movements to scale up. They also identify ways that social media present challenges and risks to social movements. You will likely find numerous ways these strategies and risks arise, but here you will need to identify and apply the concepts from the readings/lectures in describing specific examples.
  2. Identify three ways that the social movement is using social media to scale up. Examples

of ways that the social movement might be capitalizing on social media might relate to recruitment, resource mobilization, coalition building, meaning making (e.g., presence of personal narratives), or connections to offline forms of organization. b. Provide specific examples (e.g., screenshots, quotes, etc.) that illustrate the ways the

social movement is using social media you identified in 3a. c. Identify one risk posed to the social movement by social media. Examples of risks that

the social movement might encounter are co-opting of movement meaning by outside parties, presence of counter-movement messages, or elitism that privileges certain voices while silencing others. d. Provide a specific example (e.g., screenshots, quotes, etc.) that illustrate the ways the

social movement is put at risk using social media as you identified in 3c.

PART 2: CRITICAL OPINION OF MOVEMENT’S SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

  1. Summary of opinion: In 200 – 300 words, write an informed opinion on whether you think the

social movement you selected is utilizing social media effectively. Specifically:

  1. Consider the movement’s aim and how the strategies reflected in the database of information you collected serve or do not serve the mission of the movement. b. Consider the relative risk posed to the movement that you identified. Explain why you

feel the movement does or does not stand to fail due to this risk. c. Finally, share one insight that you gained from the aggregate user representations from

the social media sites. Critical Reflection Paper Writing Assignment Help
