Difference between Laws and Ethics
The focus of this discussion is differentiating laws and ethics. Both affect the counseling profession in various ways. Specifically, you should develop an understanding of how each has affected the practice of clinical assessment. In this discussion, you will learn the difference between laws and ethics. You will also research laws and ethical practices related to assessment that affect you and others in the counseling profession.
Tasks:
Using your course textbook, the NLU University online library resources, and the Internet, conduct research to support your view and respond to the following questions in a minimum of 200 words:
- Note the laws of the state in which you intend to practice as well as federal laws that impact counselors’ use of clinical assessment tools.
- Note any ethical concerns that you have regarding the clinical assessment of diverse populations.
- Reflect on the nature versus nurture debate and its relationship to assessment in general and assessment of diverse populations.
Support your rationale and analysis by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response. Professional literature may include the NLU University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (websites ending in .edu or .gov).
