GSSC 1159: Strange World of the Familiar Proposal Assignment
The aim of the Proposal Assignment is to prepare you for Assignment #2 – Analyzing Online Social Settings. At this point in the course, you should be able to reference course readings and materials. You must complete this assignment and have an approved Proposal in order to complete your final project, Assignment #2. Instructions below:
Instructions: Provide a clear concise statement of what you plan to do and how you will go about it.
- See a list of some examples of social settings that you can observe. Decide and write what the type of online social setting is that you plan to observe and analyze. (For example, the type of social setting can be social media) 2. What are two specific examples of this social setting you will observe? (For example, if you have selected social media, then the two specific examples of this online social setting can be Facebook and Instagram). 3. Upon reflection, what motivated you to select this type of social setting and why? 4. What do you think might come up in your observations? (Recurring patterns, particular
things we usually do not pay attention to) 5. What observational approach will you take and why? (Participant observation or general
observer) 6. You should not record these online social settings but you can participate and observe.
What method will you use to remember your observations? (Computer notepad, physical notepad, notes on your phone) 7. Can you anticipate any difficulties? If so, can you explain how you might overcome them. 8. What sociological theories, concepts or ideas do you think might come up in your

You should use 12pt Times New Roman Font on standard-sized paper (8.5”x11”) with 1” margins on all sides.
Include a separate References list in APA/MLA format. Be sure not to mix styles. You should also include a Title Page.
Deadline and Submission: Your Proposal should be 2 pages in length double-spaced (excluding a reference and title page) and is due by Week 5: Wednesday, June 17, 2020 online via Blackboard.
Your Proposal Assignment #1 is a prerequisite to completing the final project, Assignment #2 ‘Analyzing Online Social Settings’.
