Note: Late assignments will be accepted for 2 days following the due date/time. The grade of a late assignment will drop each day it is late. Assignments more than 2 days late may be submitted for half-credit.
Identify a movie that you would include in a “must-see” canon of film, and explain why you think it belongs there. Although the original and strict canons, such as the one the British journal SIGHT AND SOUND used for so many years, focused on aesthetics as their primary criteria, your argument should move beyond mere aesthetics. All semester we’ve discussed the many reasons a movie might be worthy of inclusion in the canon—even if it is not particularly important aesthetically/stylistically. Be sure to explain the criteria you’re using to make your selection.
Notes:
-Keep the superlatives to a minimum. Words such as “awesome,” “amazing,” and “thrilling” are easily overused and are not very useful.
–You must identify any sources you use both in the body of your essay (parenthetical citation including page numbers) and in a Works Cited at the end. Re: internet sources, provide enough information for the reader to find the source you’ve used; an accurate url is most helpful. If you have any questions, please ask them in advance of submitting the assignment.
