LAWS 3930: Business Law Fundamentals Assignment Find a case on Westlaw or LexisNexis where a company has been sued about a topic
discussed in class. Think of any company—there’s a good chance it has been sued. In your
group, prepare and present to the class information about:
1. The company(ies) before the lawsuit;
2. The lawsuit, including the legal issues and the court’s analysis of the law and facts; and
3. How the company(ies) could have prevented the lawsuit based on what we have learned

Each group must find a case on Westlaw or LexisNexis. The legal issue must be one discussed
in class (e.g. torts, contracts, warranties, products liability, breach of contract, etc.). The case
must have been decided between 1965 and 2015. The case cannot involve a class action.
Please find a case decided on the merits (i.e. the decision is based on the essential facts of the
case) and not resolved based on a procedural issue (i.e. a party failed to timely answer). This
generally means no cases involving summary judgment, unless that summary judgment was
granted in full. Also, please choose a case that is published. Unpublished opinions cannot be
used for this presentation. The case must be final, meaning there can be no further litigation
pending, including a pending appeal. If the case is a summary judgment, the summary judgment
has to have been granted in full. If the case is on appeal, the appeal must have been affirmed in
its entirety. Do not chose a case where the appellate court either remanded or reversed the trial
court’s decision—that is not a final decision. Avoid cases that have been remanded or reversed
