LG Practice Session and Self-Critique
I did the counseling session and submitted the transcript – see attached.
This assignment is to practice all the skills you have learned to date with your classmate partner. You will video-tape the session using Zoom or some other software as instructed by your instructor, transcribe your responses, and then analyze your responses using the same structure you used in M5 Assignment SA 1.
Preparation Prior to Practice Session
- You will arrange to work with a fellow student or volunteer for this or other exercises.
Schedule a practice session with a fellow classmate or volunteer. Remember, you may be both a client and counselor for this assignment so plan accordingly.
The practice client should respond and interact naturally with authentic answers.
- Prepare to record the practice session, so you can see and hear yourself and review the effectiveness of your interventions.
- Prepare to take notes during the session. This will help you formulate your summary towards the end of the session.
Part I: Conduct a Counseling Session
Conduct a minimum 20-minute taped practice counseling session integrating the foundational counseling skills to the best of your ability.
Part II: Transcribe the Session
From this practice counseling session, you only need transcribe your responses and place those into the Final Transcript Template and analyze the following:
- Which specific skill did you use? Use I tried to use Roges’s technique
- Rate your skills on a scale of 1–5 (1 = ineffective, 5 = highly effective) by evaluating the effectiveness of your intervention and if it achieved your intended result.
- For each of your responses (as a counselor), note how you could improve it to better achieve your intended result.
Submission Details:
- By the due date assigned, save your responses in a Microsoft Word document titled as M7_A1_LastName_FirstInitial.doc and submit the document to the Submissions Area along with the completed Final Transcript Template.
