Assignment 4: Primes, Greatest Common Factors, and Least Common Multiples
Part 1
Step 1: Write down your CUNYFirst number. (For example, my CUNYFirst number could be 55011234)
Step 2: Replace all the 0’s in your CUNYFirst number with 2. (So my number will now be 55211234. If you do not have any 0’s you do not need to replace anything.)
Step 3: Take your number from step 2 and break it up into 4 separate two-digit numbers. (I now have the four numbers: 55, 21, 12, 34)
Part 2
Step 4: Add the four numbers from step 3. (I would add 55+21+12+34=122)
Step 5: Using the attached list of prime numbers, choose a prime number closest to the sum of step 4. (I see the closest prime number to 122 is 127)
Step 6: Verify the number from step 5 is a prime number by using the prime number test. Step 7: Multiply the two largest numbers from step 3. (I would multiply 55*34=1870)
Step 8: Using the attached list of prime numbers, choose a prime number closest to the product of step 7. (I see the closest prime number to 1870 is 1871)
Step 9: Verify the number from step 8 is a prime number by using the prime number test.

Step 10: Find the prime factorization of each of the four numbers from step 3.
Step 11: Find the prime factorization of the multiplication of all four numbers from step 3. (So for this step I would find the prime factorization of 55*21*12*34=471240)
Step 12: Find the greatest common factor of the two largest numbers from step 3. (I would find the GCF(55,34) )
Step 13: Find the greatest common factor of all four numbers from step 3. (I would find the GCF(55,21,12,34) )
Step 14: Find the least common multiple of the two largest numbers from step 3. (I would find the LCM(55,34) )
Step 15: Find the least common multiple of all four numbers from step 3. (I would find the LCM(55,21,12,34) )
Step 16: Would my answer from step 14 be the same number I would get if I took my answer from step 7 and divided it by my answer from step 12? Why or why not? Will this happen with different numbers?
Step 17: Would my answer from step 15 be the same number I would get if multiplied all four numbers from step 3 and divided it by my answer from step 13? Why or why not? Will this happen with different numbers?
***BONUS**: Find the next prime number after 9973 without looking it up. You must show your work to receive credit.
