INSTUCTION 15%: The student will write a brief four-page double-spaced informal essay on the ethical position they would take after watching the film/TV. This means they can use personal pronouns such as “I” but must still use the appropriate academic terminology. They will summarize the situation in the film and the ethical situation and discuss what they feel is the ethical choice they would make (They are being asked please make their position clear in the first paragraph). They will then use one of the ethical theorist discussed in class and in the readings (either Kant or Mill) to support or refute the ethical decision made by the character in the film (depending on their own position). In essence, they are being asked what reason or ethical perspective best describes and provides support for their position? Afterwards they will discuss the opposing view and how the other author (either Kant or Mill) would see it. Therefore, eventually both theorists must be used and a conversation discussing and comparing both theories will take place. The students need to cite the film as and they MUST CITE THE COURSE READERS AS TEXTBOOKS in relation to the ethical philosophies. (Please note: not only must you must provide accurate information on the film and theories but you MUST CITE THE COURSE READERS AND FILM/TV SHOW). A reference page must be included but only has to contain the provided course readers and the film. Please do not use external sources without instructor approval. Marks will be docked for this. This assignment is worth 20% (1/5) of your final grade. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE POWERPOINTS. àA Sample has been posted.
