Introduction:
In this experiment I wanted to see the effects of vinegar on kidney beans.
The control group in this experiment was 0% of vinegar, and the other three
experimental groups were 0.5%, 0.75% and 1 % of vinegar.
The expected results were that the roots in the control group were expected to be
more than in the vinegar solution. And the number of the roots would decrease
with the increase in vinegar percentages in the solutions.
Methods:
I started the experiment by placing kidney beans in 12 different wells. I put 5 beans
in each well. Each 3 wells had the same concentration starting from 0% ,0.5%,
0.75%, to 1% of vinegar respectfully.
And the way these concentrations were obtained is by using the formula c1v1 =
c2v2
Where C1 is 5% of vinegar in my case and V2 is 50 ml and then the 12 wells were
covered with a piece of tissue.
And the data was collected randomly throughout the week based on the number of
roots showing.
Results:
in the line graph which represents the mean germination score of kidney beans
treated with different vinegar concentrations.
In the 0% the plants were growing normally starting from day 1 to day 7
In the 0.5% the beans were growing slower than the 0% due to the acidic solution
In the 0.75% the beans started germinating on day 4 with even less growth
Lastly the 1% had no growth even after the seventh day with a mean of 0.
In the bar graph, which represents the day7 germination scores for each vinegar
concentration. The mean of 0% of vinegar on the day 7 was 5 which means that all
beans were germinated
And the mean of 0.5% was 2.33 which means that less than half the beans were
germinated.
In the 0.75% it shows even less growth with a mean of 0.67.
In the 1% didn’t show any growth with a mean of 0
We can see the decrease in the mean with the increase of the vinegar concentration
Conclusion:
In conclusion, we can express all these data in this experiment by saying that the
higher acidity of solution will give less growth of the plant. and if we kept raising
the acidity of the solution the plant will end up dying with zero growth.
