Throughout the semester, you will write two, 4-page reflection papers on specific topics related to the course concepts. The purpose of the papers is to:
1) demonstrate your ability to understand and synthesize course concepts and content;
2) apply course perspectives to new context and issues;
3) demonstrate your ability to express yourself in writing that is well organized and well developed, but concise and error-free;
4) practice academic writing that is not descriptive, but critical/analytical in nature.
Additionally, you will also have to learn the mechanics of academic citations by using APA citation rules. For APA rules consult https://www.libs.uga.edu/ref/apastyle.pdf
Successful papers will thoughtfully apply course concepts and perspectives. Students will use a MINIMUM of 4 outside scholarly sources to support their ideas in each paper. The best papers will be critical and analytical in nature rather than descriptive. They will be original in their analysis and treatment of the subject matter. Reflection papers are NOT opinion papers. Any thoughts, ideas, or conclusions made, must be fully developed, and, preferably, all supported by scholarly sources. This being said, students may build on their own thoughts and experiences and contemplate how their opinions and perspectives have grown and changed as a result of the course and their research process.

Detailed assignment descriptions and the criteria of evaluation are available on the course website. Each reflection paper is worth a maximum of 300 points.
The reflection papers need to be to-the-point, written in academic language, and, ideally, demonstrate new modes of thinking. We hope that your reflection papers will improve throughout the semester, based on detailed feedback on your performance. If you have issues with writing, we recommend that you use the services of the UGA Writing Center https://www.english.uga.edu/writing-center. You need to make appointments to be seen etc., so plan ahead.
Please note that late paper submissions will not get full credit and will not be accepted later than the third day after the due date. If your paper is 1 day late, your total possible points will be reduced by 50 points. If it is 2 days late, by 100 points and 3 days late, by 150 points. Papers are due at 11:59pm on the due date. It is considered a day late paper if you submit it after midnight. Submit your paper through Dropbox. Emailed papers will be considered only in extreme circumstances.
